Why Do We Do Custom Cabinets?
If you’ve ever looked at our price breakdowns for kitchens, you may have noticed that we generally use custom cabinets in our remodels. Why is that?
As remodelers, we have to run a cost-benefit analysis on products. Your money is valuable, so we look to see where your money is best spent, making the best space possible. Plenty of products work perfectly well as premade parts, without extra bells and whistles. There are a few things, however, where it is beneficial to get something done custom. We have seen that custom cabinets are one of the products that are certainly worth the investment.
Why is that? Most importantly, quality. Custom cabinets are a lifetime investment. Often, premade cabinets (called prefab cabinets) break down on the hinges and drawer glides. Customs tend to have a longer lifetime on every part, meaning you won’t have to keep replacing parts, saving you time and money in the long run.
They also have a better quality control system. Customs, being made for each individual client, have fewer faulty parts than a mass-produced product. This saves you the headache of waiting for replacement parts or losing time over something you need to replace.
Custom cabinets are also a nice way to support a local business. Custom cabinet makers tend to be small, family-run businesses, rather than the large industries of mass-produced goods. I personally love it when I can support someone around me in their business, and when you’re getting a good deal out of it, all the better! Our custom cabinet makers are very competitively priced, so your support is not hard-earned with your life savings.
You also get the benefit of a unique style. You get the power of choosing your color and finish easily, no need to strip or repaint cabinets that aren't colored to your liking. There are many more options for color, style, and finish to cater to how you want your house to look. The cabinets fit into the unique style of your kitchen, too. If you have any strange corners or curves in your kitchen layout, custom cabinets easily are designed to fit into your space, rather than the space being moved to fit your cabinets.
Even with customs cabinets, that doesn't mean we recommend everyone to fully customize and upgrade all parts of their remodel. If you want a kitchen with just the essentials, go for it! Do what works for you.
As a team, we prefer to do the custom cabinets route. Though we do work with prefab cabinets when our clients want to, we love to recommend customs as a great option for some long-term value and unique style.
